Warning this is a long post! We spent the past weekend in St. George. Steve and our neighbor Bill did the St. George Triathlon. Friday night we all met up for pizza and then did a little shopping and sight seeing.
After that we called it a night so Steve could get plenty of rest before the big race.
Steve and Bill had to get up early because the race started at 7. Bill's wife Mary and I brought the kids and headed up around 8. We got there after the swim but in time to watch them come in from riding. The wind was unbelievable, they had to cancel one of the swims because of waves. This gave me anxiety, swimming has been one of Steve's biggest challenges. Not to mention I am not a fan of open water swims. So Salem and I waited and waited for Steve to come in from biking. The longer we waited the more nervous I became. I watched Search & Rescue circle the reservoir, and listened to everyone say what a horrible swim it was and how they had to pull over 30 people out of the water. Just as I was certain that I was going to be a 30 year old widow.....here came Steve! Words can't describe how relived I was to see him.
So after a 1500 meter swim, a 27 mile bike ride (all in the wind) it was time to do a 6 mile run, most of it in sand. By this time Salem was really starting to get in to it and she was excited to see her dad race. We cheered him on, gave him high fives and kisses as he took off on the last leg of the triathlon.
I can't tell you how proud I am of Steve for finishing this race. It must have been horrible but he was determined and I admire him for that. He even let Salem finish the race with him.
Steve and Bill celebrating their victory together!
The kids were so proud of their dads. We had such a great time, we are looking forward to another race with the Kimball's in August.
After the race we headed down to Vegas to spend the night with Steve's sister Amie. I love Amie like a sister and I never get to spend enough time with her. One night wasn't nearly enough but we did get in some swimming and an awesome dinner!
And to start Mother's Day off right, Amie's husband Ike cooked us an amazing breakfast before we had to hit the road and head home.
What a wonderful weekend, I am so proud of my husband. He really is amazing and he inspires me. I love you baby!

Wowza, imressive Steve. I can't imagine a swim like that would be so hard.
I hope it wore him out so I can keep up with him this weekend.
Wow, that is amazing. I had a guy that is a rep that I work with and he was doing that same triathalon. I told him he was crazy. It was his first. I don't like the idea of swimming in open water either, probably because I can't swim :)
Congratulations, Steve. I totally cried seeing you running in and the one with Salem. So sweet! It is incredible that you did a triathalon. Good for you!
That's so awesome! I also got tears in my eyes because of the picture of Steve and Salem finishing together. I really respect people who can do these type of endurance races.
BTW - what did you get from Life Is Good? I love their stuff.
